LIBRARY SHOWS
|
 |
The
Gypsy Folk Ensemble offers a wide variety of shows that
can be performed at libraries. See our List of Seasonal Shows
for some examples. Dances of Polynesia
for the Summer, our Mexican Celebration for Cinco de Mayo, and the International Holidays show for December are special favorites.
Two
or four dancers in colorful and authentic costume present the dances
along with an educational narrative and an opportunity for the audience
to participate by learning and joining in on a dance.
Our
current rates are $175 for two dancers or $300 for four
dancers for a 45-minute presentation.
GYPSY
is sensitive to your programming needs; we can customize our
library shows to perfectly fit a special subject or theme. Contact us for more information.
|
In
addition, each year we create a new show specially tailored for the
theme of the California Library Association's Summer Reading Program.
Our show combines dance, music, and story to to provide an educational experience and to stimulate
interest in reading. |

SCHOOL SHOWS
GYPSY
presents a choice
of six different international dance assemblies
suitable for all grades. All shows feature four dancers in authentic
costume and include audience participation and an educational
narrative. Our fees are $500.00 for a single 45 minute assembly,
$850.00 for two assemblies at the same site, and $1200.00 for three
assemblies.
The
Gypsy Folk Ensemble is a 2009-2010 member
of the Arts Community Partnership Network (ACPN) and has been part of
the program since its inception. The ACPN
is a program instituted by the Arts Education Branch of the Los Angeles
Unified School District to help bring the arts to Los Angeles area
students. See our Comprehensive Dance Package for more details of our program. We are accepting bookings now for the 2009-2010 school year.
If
your school is not part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, you can
still take advantage of our Comprehensive Dance Package. This usually
consists of a planning meeting, one or more assemblies, a professional
development workshop, and a series of student workshops. We can adapt
the package to suit your school's needs and budget.

SCHOOL WORKSHOPS AND RESIDENCIES
The
Gypsy Folk Ensemble offers teaching sessions for students and
Professional Development Workshops for teachers.
Student sessions can
range from a one-day workshop to an extended residency over several
weeks. Residencies can also include preparing students for a dance
presentation. Teaching sessions
stress motor skills and group cooperation, dance formation and rhythms,
cultural and geographical background, and respect for diversity.
Workshops can be coordinated with social studies programs in specific
grades.
Professional
Development Workshops are fully interactive sessions which are designed
to provide teachers with dances and background material suitable for
all grade levels. Music for dances on a CD and a 40 page syllabus
containing full directions for all dances and tips on teaching dance
can be provided to all participants. A standard Professional Development Package is available for Elementary, Middle and High Schools but we can also tailor workshops to meet particular school needs
Contact
us for more information on customizing student or teacher workshops for
your school and student needs. You may also want to look into our Comprehensive Dance Package.
