dSCHOOL ASSEMBLY PROGRAMS
The Gypsy Folk Ensemble presents a choice of six different international dance assemblies suitable for all grades. All shows feature four dancers in authentic costume and include audience participation and an educational narrative. Our fees are $500.00 for a single 45 minute assembly, $850.00 for two assemblies at the same site, and $1200.00 for three assemblies.

The Gypsy Folk Ensemble is a member of the Arts Community Partnership Network (ACPN) and has been part of the program since its inception. The ACPN is a program instituted by the Arts Education Branch of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to help bring the arts to Los Angeles area students.  See our Comprehensive Dance Package for more details of our program. We are accepting bookings now for the 2011-2012 school year.

Gypsy works in public and private schools throughout Southern California including Santa Barbara, Ventura, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego so even if your school is not part of the LAUSD, you can still take advantage of our school assemblies, workshops and our Comprehensive Dance Package. We can adapt our material and presentation to suit your school's needs and budget. The company occasionally makes tours to the San Francisco Bay area and elsewhere in California and the Southwest United States - contact us for more information on tour schedules and fees.

dSCHOOL WORKSHOPS AND RESIDENCIES

The Gypsy Folk Ensemble offers teaching sessions for students at all grade levels and Professional Development Workshops for teachers in public and private schools.

Student Workshops can range from a one-day dance session for a single class to multiple day meetings with several classes.  Residencies can extend over several weeks and can also include preparing students for their own dance presentation. The teaching sessions conform to California state dance standards for schools and stress the following aspects:

    • Motor skills and group cooperation
    • Dance formations and rhythms
    • Learning dances from different countries
    • Cultural and geographical background
    • Respect for diversity
Workshops normally consist of four 45 minute sessions in a day with different classes which introduce students to several dances. Residencies give greater emphasis to more involved dance forms and creative choreography.

Workshops can be coordinated with social studies programs for specific grades. Materials include lesson plans, dance directions, and music for the dances taught.
Teaching a Greek dance

Professional Development Workshops are fully interactive sessions which are designed to provide teachers with dances and background material suitable for all grade levels. Music for dances on a CD and a 40 page syllabus containing full directions for all dances and tips on teaching dance can be provided to all participants. A standard Professional Development Package is available for Elementary, Middle and High Schools but we can also tailor workshops to meet particular school needs

Contact us for more information on customizing student or teacher workshops for your school and student needs. You may also want to look into our Comprehensive Dance Package or individual School Assemblies.

dLIBRARY PROGRAMS

Library - Summer Reading Program The Gypsy Folk Ensemble offers a wide variety of shows that can be performed at libraries. Two or four dancers in colorful and authentic costume present the dances along with an educational narrative and an opportunity for the audience to participate by learning and joining in on a dance.

See our List of Seasonal Shows for some examples of our library presentations. Some special favorites for libraries are  Dances of Polynesia for the Summer, our Mexican Celebration for Cinco de Mayo or Mexican Independence Day, and the International Holidays show for December.

Our current standard rates are $175 for two dancers or $300 for four dancers for a 45-minute presentation.

GYPSY is sensitive to your programming needs; just let us know what you want and we can customize our library shows to fit a special subject or theme. As well as serving Los Angeles city and county libraries, Gypsy also presents programs in libraries in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, Orange County, San Bernardino and Riverside, and the San Diego area. Contact us for more information about a presentation at your library.

dSUMMER READING PROGRAM

In addition, each year we create a new presentation specially designed for the theme of the California Library Association's Summer Reading Program.
